Rensselaer County selects BI Incorporated for offender monitoring technologies

County will incorporate use of GPS offender tracking

TROY, NY—Jan. 20, 2010— BI Incorporated, the nation’s largest provider of offender supervision, treatment and reentry services for community correctional agencies, announced that the Rensselaer County Probation Department has renewed its longstanding relationship with BI. Rensselaer County awarded BI a contract to supply a wide range of offender monitoring systems for probationers and pretrial defendants under the supervision of the probation department in the community.

Under terms of this award, BI will supply:

  • BI ExacuTrack® and ExacuTrack AT, and ExacuTrack One, three sophisticated offender monitoring systems that include Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking capabilities. Through use of these GPS monitoring systems, offenders can accurately be monitored as they move about the community to verify if they remain within certain boundaries and avoid other areas. These systems also monitor whether offenders comply with detailed curfews.li>
  • BI HomeGuard® 200, electronic monitoring system which includes a tamper-resistant ankle bracelet mounted on the offender, a receiver installed in the person’s home, and a host monitoring computer. HomeGuard monitors whether offenders adhere to court-ordered schedules and curfews.
  • BI Cellular®, an electronic monitoring system that incorporates wireless technology for offenders who do not have traditional phone service.
  • BI TAD™, an ankle-mounted alcohol monitoring system that measures alcohol usage via a sophisticated skin sensor. TAD also includes electronic monitoring technology to monitor adherence to curfews and schedules.
  • BI Sobrietor®, a remote alcohol monitoring system to verify sobriety
  • BI VoiceID® a voice verification system that verifies strict schedule compliance in the community via random and scheduled phone calls.
  • BI GroupGuard® an electronic monitoring system for multiple clients living in one residence.
  • BI Drive-BI® a handheld system that allows officers to check if an offender is home from outside the residence.

Individuals referred to the Probation Department’s electronic monitoring program are monitored via the BI GuardCenter®, BI’s 24/7 national monitoring center staffed by monitoring specialists. BI has worked with Rensselaer County since 1999.
