The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has contracted with BI Incorporated, the leader in electronic monitoring products and services for community corrections, to provide GPS tracking and continuous alcohol monitoring devices to assist with monitoring of probationers and pretrial defendants released to community supervision. The Baldwin County Commission selected BI this fall after a competitive bidding process.
Under the agreement, BI will supply the following products and monitoring service:
BI ExacuTrack® One, a system that monitors an offender’s location using GPS tracking data and other location positioning technologies. These devices log data about an offender’s movement as they move about the community, including areas deemed “inclusion” or “exclusion” zones where offenders may or may not travel
BI TAD® continuously monitors a person for alcohol consumption through a noninvasive skin sensor contained in an ankle-mounted bracelet. TAD monitors for sobriety and is often used with offenders who have a history of alcohol abuse.
BI TotalAccess® is the software for supervising officers to access and update offender data through a secure website.
Baldwin County formed Community Corrections and Pretrial Release departments to help alleviate jail crowding at the 649-bed county jail. The Sheriff’s Office added electronic monitoring to support supervision of low-risk offenders or pretrial defendants released to the community, reduce taxpayer burden, and hold individuals accountable as they work and contribute to the local community. The Sheriff’s Office carefully screens participants for involvement in the electronic monitoring program.
